I don’t buy many Apps from the iTunes store, and when I do I expect them to be worth the pocket change. Thankfully, PDGA’s iPhone App fits the bill.
For $4.99 I am able to call up all the PDGA-sanctioned courses near me, save them to my favorites list and then when I am ready to go play, I can quickly locate the course and activate the App’s built-in scorecard for that course.
The one area I feel is missing from the App is a database of course maps. Given that many disc golf courses do not issue printed scorecards or course maps, it’s a real hurdle for many players to overcome. For instance, how many times have you heard, or engaged in this particular conversation?
"Where’s the next TeeBoxx?
I don’t know, maybe it’s this way.
Adding a course map to each of the PDGA-registered courses in the App’s database would solve this, and make this App one of the more essential touchpoints on one’s iPhone.
Another feature I enjoy in this App is the post your round to Facebook function that appears at the end of each round played. Of course, depending on how you throw on a given day, you may not want your friends on FB to know your score, but I like to put it up regardless of how I play. Doing so creates a log of my scores, but it’s also a vehicle for sharing my love of the game with friends who may or may not play at this point in time.
